I am focusing on those that are very effective in fighting off the effects of aging.
1. L-Glutamine One of the biggest claims about L-Glutamine is that it acts like L-Tyrosine to "boost cellular growth" and prevent the decline of DNA and other vital components of our aging bodies. While some believe that L-Glutamine acts by breaking down damaged DNA, I think the main reason why L-Glutamine has a good effect on preventing DNA damage is because of its ability to increase the levels of a particular molecule called "cysteine" in our cells. When we burn fat, this molecule is oxidized and we lose many of our precious antioxidants. In a study by L-Glutamine is shown to increase our levels of cysteine, and help us keep the healthy enzymes we need to keep our DNA intact. When we have more of this enzyme in our bodies, we get less DNA damage, we have a more youthful appearance, and it is believed to protect our immune system. L-Glutamine also increases the production of "bioavailable oxygen" which has many other beneficial effects. L-Glutamine may be very helpful for preventing our cells from breaking down. But what I believe L-Glutamine does for me, that no other supplement could do, is to provide me with more energy.
